Welcome to the not-so-secret freediving training diary of David Mellor! Last time, we interviewed David about his plans for 2019 and how he hopes to improve on his freediving personal best in ALL 6 DISCIPLINES. Well, it looks like he is already on his way to achieving just that! Check out his amazing videos and find out his thoughts on his progress so far! Also, check out his new competition dates and NEW PBs in the right hand column of his diary!

David tells us about training tonight, his first new pb of the year and how everyone else performed.

“…He’re we are! Just finished our training session with Seb and Liz and Delphine and Tracey. Tracey, PB no fins, Delphine PB no fins. I tried for bi-fins. I did 125 with my bi-fins so I’m happy and Seb did some drills, so it’s coming along nicely.

Ok, bye!…”

And discover what he got up to in the gym this week too!

Last week, he talked about his plans to set new pbs in DNF and DYNB, just two days after setting one pb, he’s set another

David talks a little bit more about his second PB of the week

“…We’ve just finished a really good session at Rossmore. I did a PB – 109 metres, no fins. Really pleased about that. The session was really good because the other guys I was training with, they were all focused and I realised that actually the people I surround myself with when I am training is very important. To have people around that are trying hard and focusing on their training too really rubs off on me and keeps me focused. So that was something I’ve kind of learned along this journey that I am doing.

So I did a long dive on Friday with Bi-Fins and then again tonight, with no fins. Two new personal bests. And I did this just to see where I am with all my training. Because it is ok just training, training, training, but you want to see if there are any improvements. So I decided to not do any training drills but actually on Friday and Sunday do a longer swim and see where I am with my progress, and I’m actually really pleased. I had some lactic with my 125 Bi-Fins, but that’s the first long Bi-Fins dive I’ve ever done, but no lactic with 109 with no fins, so the gym work is clearly paying off.

Now, I’m going to focus back on drills and see how I go. So no PB attempts or long swims for a few more weeks yet, and I’ll check how my progress goes from there.

Check out David Mellor’s freediving personal best for Dynamic with Bi-Fins in this video!

What a week for David! Only last week we heard him discuss how he wanted to achieve new personal bests in all 6 disciplines this year, and this week he goes and smashes two of them! We can’t wait to find out what next week brings!
