Whether you are a beginner freediver, spearfisher, scuba diver, or an experienced freediver wanting to advance your skills or prepare for competition the RAID Static Apnea Speciality certification course is for you!

During this static apnea certification course, you will learn how to perform static apnea safely and confidently. You’ll discover new techniques for both relaxation and mental focus, and learn techniques to practice and improve your performance. You will also learn how to buddy correctly and safely for static apnea, including how to coach your buddy and how to rescue them in the unlikely event they have a hypoxic episode.

The RAID Static Apnea Specialty course offers divers the opportunity to improve their technique, enhance their performance, and enjoy the mental challenge of static apnea, whilst receiving a certification on successful completion of the course.

Tell Me More!

Static apnea is a freediving discipline where a diver holds their breath on the surface for as long as possible without any movement. It’s unique among freediving disciplines because the focus is on breath-hold duration rather than depth or distance.

Mental discipline is crucial in static apnea. The diver must stay calm and relaxed, managing the discomfort that comes as carbon dioxide levels rise and the urge to breathe becomes stronger. This mental aspect often involves meditation and visualisation techniques to prolong the breath-hold and the buddy can have a crucial role as a coach.

Static apnea is one of the core events in freediving competitions, alongside disciplines like dynamic apnea (distance swimming underwater) and depth disciplines (diving to various depths). Training in static apnea also helps train the body and the mind for other freediving disciplines.
