Whale and dolphin freediving liveaboard holiday
Freedive with Blue whales and 20 other species of whales and dolphins in the crystal clear waters off Sri Lanka
We are thrilled to announce the world’s first freediving whale and dolphin liveaboard, with the chance to freedive with Blue whales…
Sri Lanka’s coastline is a haven for big marine mammals and now you have the chance to freedive with them from the comfort of a brand new, luxury liveaboard. The Sri Lankan Aggressor goes further offshore than any other boat for the best and most reliable encounters. Here the water is clearer and the sightings even more impressive. Come face to face with the world’s biggest whale, the Blue whale, as well as dolphins and smaller whales.
On our whales and dolphin freediving liveaboard, guests will have the opportunity to freedive with up to thirteen species of whales and eight species of dolphin. These include blue whales, sperm whales, humpback whales, beaked whales, melon headed whales, pilot whales, and false killer whales. Two of the predominant species that are resident in Sri Lanka, are the sperm whale which averages 40 – 60 feet and the blue whale which averages 60 – 100 feet long and weighs up to 200 tons.
Your trip will be fully guided with world renowned marine naturalist Howard Martenstyn onboard to offer education information on behaviour patterns, and freediving instructor trainer and yoga instructor Emma Farrell.
Living on a luxury boat for the week
The Sri Lankan Aggressor is a brand new, huge stable steel hulled liveaboard built in 2016. She sleeps up to 26 people across 3 decks. The lower deck has 7 twin bedded deluxe cabins, with a further 2 twin deluxe cabin on the main deck. The 3 double bedded master cabins are on the main and upper deck. The cabins themselves are large and spacious with en suite, 22 inch flat screen TV and hair dryers. There are even hydrophones in the cabins so you can listen to the whales talking to each other from the comfort of your cabin! From the morning beverage service to the evening cabin turn down, step on board to experience Aggressor service with a smile.
Aggressor Fleet is well known for the outstanding international cuisine served on board and meals are served in the separate saloon area. The home baked snacks are especially popular! The sun deck is partially covered with comfy chaise lounges. There’s even a BBQ area.
Freediving and yoga activities
The week is dedicated to freediving with whales and dolphins, so everything else will fit around these encounters. We will be out at sea all week, so the freediving will be in the blue, interacting with the incredible wildlife.
Depending on the timing of encounters, there will be two yoga and breathing classes a day, including the profoundly relaxing practice of yoga nidra under the stars!
Freediving courses
Every participant on the trip has to have a freediving qualification of at least RAID Freediver/AIDA **/ SSI Level 1 standard. If you do not have a freediving qualification, then you can take the RAID Freediver course before the trip in Sri Lanka for an additional charge.
Children under 12 can take the BSAC Dolphin Snorkeller programme. Please contact Scuba Travel on 01483 411 590 if you need to book a freediving course beforehand.
Your instructor will be Emma Farrell, so you’ll have the chance to learn at a relaxed pace from one of the world’s most experienced instructors.
