When students complete a course with Go Freediving, one of the comments we repeatedly hear is about the quality of training from their freediving instructor. Based on feedback from our previous students we have listed the top 8 qualities our students look for or really like when taking a course with us.

Freediving Instructor – Quality #1: Knowledgeable

There are an increasing number of freediving instructor courses available on the market, some of which can be completed in a day or a weekend, without any prior knowledge of freediving at all. Every Go Freediving  freediving instructor has not only completed an extended freediving instructor courses, they have also completed every recreational freediving course level we offer our students before becoming eligible to undertake the course. So as a student you know that their knowledge of the course you are undertaking is thorough on both the theory and practical elements. They will have encountered the obstacles and hurdles you may be facing and they will have solutions to help you overcome them.

Freediving Instructor – Quality #2: Experienced

At Go Freediving, and hand in hand with knowledge, each freediving instructor has a wealth of experience not only as freedivers at every level of the RAID levels of certification, but also in other areas of freediving too – such as marine conservation, international competitions, spearfishing, scuba diving, underwater photography and more. They have tried and tested equipment, kit, water conditions, techniques, training aids and anything else you could imagine in the freediving world, meaning if you need help with something, or have a query, their experience will help you prevent making expensive mistakes and could even help you find quicker ways to progress.

Freediving Instructor – Quality #3: Safety Conscious

Safety is always something our students say they look for when they are booking their course. Go Freediving is VERY safety conscious and we pride ourselves on our safety record. Not only do we use safe venues for diving, with no tides, currents, waves or boat traffic, but each freediving instructor is chosen because of their strong safety values. Our freediving instructors are experienced enough to know when to encourage a student to challenge their perceived limits or when to work more with a student to encourage comfortable progress. We will never force students to do more than they are ultimately comfortable with doing. We do not see passing the course as the only sign of success. For us, seeing a student redefine their limits and becoming more confident is an equal success to us.

Freediving Instructor – Quality #4: Patient

You’ve been told how to do a particular technique, but just can’t execute it, or you just don’t feel confident enough to attempt a dive – we’ve all been there, and that’s where the support of a patient instructor can make all the difference. Going back to experience, our freediving instructors all faced moments of self doubt at some time during their learning. They understand that we all learn at different paces and that something that works one day, may not work another day. Sometimes just swapping instructors for an hour can be the breakthrough a student needs. Our instructors know each other well and know the strengths of each other too. This is invaluable and allows our instructors to identify the best way to help our students.

Freediving Instructor – Quality #5: Passionate

Every freediving instructor at Go Freediving is very passionate about freediving! This passion will be evident from the moment you join the course. They have been teaching freediving for years, yet see every course as an opportunity to learn more themselves. This passion is quite infectious! Our instructors have, through own personal choice,  adapted elements of their lifestyle, diet and complementary training to maximise their capabilities as freedivers, so are always happy to discuss additional ways for you to enhance your own lifestyle to benefit your freediving too.

Freediving Instructor – Quality #6: Approachable

Our freediving instructors LOVE to help! It is part of the reason they were identified as excellent candidates to become instructors. They have a natural urge to want to help you, making them very friendly and approachable, so don’t be afraid to ask them anything!

Freediving Instructors – Quality #7: Fun

We take our freediving courses seriously, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any room for fun! We are not a macho, boot-camp style freediving school. We understand that relaxation plays an important part in the success of freediving. Ensuring our students are comfortable, reassured, safe and relaxed is a priority for us.

Freediving Instructor – Quality #8: Ratios

We have always prided ourselves on the number of instructors we have to students. This was one of the first stipulations we set when we set our business up and we have adhered to it ever since. Our courses mean that there will never be more than four students to one freediving instructor. Wherever possible we can even make it as low as one student per instructor! Now that is impossible to beat!
