Freediving in a music video? Featuring Beyoncé? Bet that grabbed your attention!

That’s what happened in Naughty Boy’s “Runnin’ (Lose It All), track collaboration with Beyoncé and Arrow Benjamin. Sadly for some, we only have Beyoncé’s vocals, but we do have another fabulous video of Guillaume Néry and Alice Modolo looking amazing together. Watch closely and you will see that more than just a little inspiration for the video was taken from Néry’s film Ocean Gravity – except this video has a love story woven into the film.

The use of freediving in a music video was going to be a challenge, but music video director Charlie Robins knew instantly he wanted it for the track. “ As soon as I received the track from Naughty boy I contacted them to see if they wanted to collaborate on a music video with me.”

And so, together a production team they traveled back to the exact spot Ocean Gravity was filmed. Modolo highlighted one of the difficulties of using freediving in a music video – the absence of weights. She said “… we couldn’t have lots of air in our lungs because we couldn’t put weights on us. So I had to dive with nearly no air, because with full lungs, we could not stay at the bottom…”

During a later interview, Modolo described why this film meant so much to her”… My family is so happy to see me. Sometimes they didn’t understand why I love diving so much and now they understand why. It’s difficult to explain, but with this video, you can feel the emotion that we feel when we dive. They understand now why it is so important to me. There are not a lot of people who can do this type of project. This gives it a spotlight..“
