Freediving with Go Freediving, we hope, is not a one course experience! Our students come and join us from all over the world, with every possible differing background and experience, but with a common goal, to freedive! For myself and my instructors this is both humbling and inspiring! As passionate freedivers ourselves, we hope each student will leave with (at the very least) a new life skill which they can transfer to so many different areas of their lives. This can range from increased water confidence and better general stress and anxiety management through to the discovery of a new hobby or competitive sport for life, or even a career change!

Our primary aim is to give students an amazing, safe and memorable experience. We also want our students to remember that freediving with us is about the journey, not the destination! We focus on the whole course being an experience, rather than a process in order to achieve an end result.

Because of this emphasis on relaxation and enjoyment, we believe the very high standard of teaching and learning results in our students becoming exceptional freedivers who are able to maximise, and very often surpass, their own perceived limits. In fact, our instructors have all been former students of Go Freediving – which we believe truly helps them understand what each students needs are.

I’m thinking of doing a course, but am not sure I will be capable

We understand how daunting a freediving course may be, which is exactly why freediving with us is tailored to you as an individual. We have had many students come to us, not just to learn how to freedive or improve in other sports, but to take advantage of the day to day benefits of freediving too. For example, how to manage stress, anxiety and fear. They also come to us to learn and practice methods of deep relaxation, meditation and finding inner calm (freediving is often described as the yoga of the sea). These skills, once learned, stay with our students regardless of any ‘certification achievements’.

Our goal, as always, is to make your freediving experience a journey of discovery (and for some, healing), not a competitive space to try and out-do fellow students or push yourself dangerously or uncomfortably beyond your limits just to try and earn a tick on your skills list. Every freediving journey is as individual as the student. The question should not be are you are capable of achieving, but rather, are you excited at the prospect of experiencing and enjoying your own personal freediving journey?

What happens if I am unable to complete the course?

When a student undertakes their first course in freediving, there are a number of avenues they can take if they were unable to complete the course.

Become a returning student

If the student was unable to complete the course or pass some of the skill tests required, we offer hugely popular ‘Returning Student‘ packages. These allow the students to come along and join another course as many times as they wish, to continue having tuition and practice at their skills

Many returning students who are qualified actually enjoy just coming and joining a course as a way to refresh skills and keep up to date with current training practices.

If returning students choose to join us on one of our liveaboard trips they do not have to pay anything towards their returning student fee, and can enjoy 7 days of glorious diving, perfecting skills with a qualified instructor at no extra cost!

Join our Pool Club Sessions

Once a student has undertaken a course in freediving with us they are eligible to come along to our pool training sessions which we sometimes host in the off season subject to demand and pool availability. Follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletter to be kept up to date with when these will take place.

These session usually run  for one or two hours and are focused on skills, technique and having fun! All perfect for getting skills nailed before your next open water session where you can get skills signed off.

Private Tuition

Some of our students, particularly those with chaotic work schedules or busy home lives, are not able to commit to preset training dates, so need some flexibility. And while we do offer a limited number of mid week courses each season, they are not guaranteed to coincide with the student’s own timetable. For this reason we also offer half or full day privately tutored freediving sessions. These may be with myself, or with one of my instructors, and can be for an individual or up to a maximum of three students per instructor.

Take a holiday with us

As mentioned earlier, we run a variety of holidays every year. These are a fantastic way to take a break, relax and enjoy as much freediving as you want!

Our liveaboard holiday is incredibly popular for this, and understandably so. You can quite literally wake up, step onto the deck, and be freediving among shipwrecks and dolphins within minutes! We also run all level courses on the trip, so if you complete one course while you are there and feel ready to take on another course, we can arrange that for you too!

I passed the course! What’s next?

Right at the very beginning of this blog, I said that I hope a freediving course with us is not a one course experience. Myself, and my instructors, hope that freediving becomes a way of life for our students (but we may be a little biased). Once a student starts freediving with us, we want to continue your freediving journey with them!

Take it to the next level

If you have successfully completed your freediving course, you may already be thinking about increasing your skills, wanting to dive deeper and for longer! Go Freediving follows the RAID programme for freediving and there is enormous scope to continue improving and progressing through the various levels. At Go Freediving our Instructors are all advanced freediving instructors with years of freediving experience under their belts. As an active advanced freediving instructor and instructor trainer, we have the ability and experience to help you progress through each level as safely and competently as possible.

Join us!

Once you have completed a freediving course with us, you are welcome to come and join us as a club member (lots of benefits).

We also run club days every course weekend through the open water season (usually Easter through to October) and this is a very sociable, friendly way to dive safely with an experienced buddy in amazing conditions right here in the UK.

And then we have trips such as our Shark Trips, Liveaboards, Winter Training Camps, Luxury trips and miscellaneous trips such as Y40. Plenty to keep you active, entertained and enthusiastic all year round!

Competitions

If you have an ounce of competitiveness in your body, we’ll find it! Our club members regularly seek out competitions in the UK and abroad and use them as focus for training and self improvement.

Take it to other sports

Having securely tucked your freediving qualification under your belt, you may not actually want to progress further. You may be satisfied with your new water skill and feel ready for a new adventure elsewhere. Your freediving skills will absolutely help you in every other sport, thanks to the increased confidence you have gained, but more importantly the breathing techniques you will have learned and practised. At Go Freediving, we have taught many Olympians, elite athletes and serious amateur sport enthusiasts (whose disciplines are land and/or water based) increase performance, stamina and endurance immediately after undertaking a course with us.

Take it to work

We have an amazing number of students who have water based careers. Adding freediving to their repertoire is benefiting them in their personal life and their career choice.

We’ve had Marine Biologists, Army Marines, Athletes, Stunt Workers, Camera Operators, Photographers, Conservationists, TV presenters, Scuba Instructors, Professional Mermaids and so much more come and join us on courses!
